WAYS TO DONATE

 

3AFN has various types of donations methods:

Door to Door Pickup -Home or office pick up – requesting a donation pickup is easy. Call us at 770-282-2100 to request a donation pickup or sign up online to join our free pickup list. Then, on the day you are scheduled on our rotational route, place your donation in front of your home or office in a clean, dry place. We operate on a rotational schedule, Sunday – Thursday, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and provide you with a tax receipt.
Park Place Thrift Strores - donate by taking your items to Park Place Thrift Store. www.parkplacethriftstores.com
Host a Clothing Drive - This program provides service to the community as well as a fundraising opportunity. We are excited to offer this program for schools, bands, choirs, churches, youth groups, or athletic teams.The program is open to all groups. Your group simply signs up donors for the monthly clothing drives. Your group, as well as the collecting charity, benefit from the clothing drives. A donation will be made to your organization for every pickup scheduled online by your registered members. Call us at 770 282-2104 for more info or to sign up your group.
Expedited pick up – priority routes are available if your donation needs to be picked up in one week or less. For quick pick up, call 770-282-2104 to arrange for a pickup in your area.
Special weekend collections – perfect for items that go unsold at garage sales or community sales. This special donation pick up is reserved for weekends and for large donation loads that require more than one person.

A Tax Deduction Receipt When We Collect Your Donation

We’ll pick up your donations at your doorstep for free. You don’t even have to be home. Our professional and helpful drivers will leave a Tax Deduction receipt for you when they collect your donations.

Tax Deduction Guidelines
Here are the general guidelines for donations of household goods and clothing to the Vietnam Veterans of America. These guidelines are based on information obtained from the Internal Revenue Code and other sources (appropriate citations of IRS and Treasury Department documents are in parentheses). As with any tax-related information, an individual donor should always consult a tax professional to resolve questions regarding their particular donation. Please consult form 8283 on the Internal Revenue Service website.

If an individual donates property they may deduct the property's fair market value at the time of the donation, subject to the statutory limitations on such donations. Fair market value is defined as the price at which the property would change hands between a willing seller and a willing buyer. For property, it is generally held that fair market value is the price at which the item or a comparable item would be sold at retail (IRS Rev. Proc. 65-19, 1965-2 CB 1002).

Further, the fair market value of used clothing and household items is the price that buyers of used items actually pay in used clothing stores (Treasury Department booklet, Your Federal Income Tax, 1993 edition, p.186).

It is the donor's responsibility to determine the value of donated items.
If the donation is $250 or more, but does not exceed $500, a written acknowledgment of the donation must be provided by the donee. In the case of 3AFN, the donation receipt fulfills this obligation.

If the donation is over $500, but does not exceed $5,000, the donor must complete IRS form 8283, Non-cash Charitable Contributions, Part A only. They should file this form with their tax return. If the donation is over $5,000, the donor must complete IRS form 8283 and send it to Three Angels Food Network, Inc, 863 Flat Shoals Road SE, #C357, 30094.

A 3AFN representative will complete section B, part IV, and return the completed form to the donor. The donor should retain the form to file with their tax return for the tax year in which the donation was made. Obviously, the donor should send the form to the 3AFN office as soon as possible after the donation is made in order to allow sufficient time for 3AFN to process and return the form in time for the donor to file their taxes. In addition, an appraisal performed by a qualified appraiser may be required.

How do I schedule a donation pickup?

Do I have to be at home for a pickup?
No. You do not have to be home to donate. Place your donations in a plastic bag or box on your porch or near to garage. (Do not place near mailbox) Label it "Clothing Pickup" and our driver will leave a tax receipt for you.

What is your pickup time window?
Our drivers pick up donations between 7am and 7 pm. We are only able to offer all day window for pickup service due to the nature of collecting donations. It is very hard to judge how long each individual pickup will take as the quantity in each donation varies a great deal. We also never know when a tuck will have to back to headquarters to unload if full during appointed rounds.

Do you accept large furniture and mattresses?
We are typically only able to accept small pieces of furniture that are small and light enough for one driver to easily handle and load onto the truck. Special accommodations can sometimes be made, please forward your address and telephone number to Info@3AFN.ORG and we will request the local store manager call you in regards to this matter. We are not able to accept mattresses because we do not have the facilities to sterilize for resale. Our main need is of clothing and small household items.

Do you accept exercise equipment?
We can accept exercise equipment as long as it is small and light enough for one driver to easily handle and load onto the truck. Special accommodations can sometimes be made, please forward your address and telephone number to Info@3AFN.ORG and we will request the local store manager call you in regards to this matter.

The driver forgot to leave my tax receipt, how do I get one?
Please call us at 770 282-2104 and request that we mail one to you. Please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery via U.S. Mail

Why do you not offer pickup service in my zip code?
We are only able to offer donation pickup service in some zip codes. Due to the cost of fuel and other collection costs we are only in zip codes close to local thrift stores that re-sell donations.

My pickup was missed what should I do?
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please send an email to Info@3AFN.ORG and let us know what happened we’ll see that you are rescheduled and that the locals dispatch is made aware of the deficiency.
